World Maker Faire at NY Hall of Science, Part 1

boywbigbot

Maker Faire is absolutely magical! Geek nirvana. We had a blast. Especially Mikro. First he stopped to draw a dragon. Then we toured the 3D Printer village area, and signed up for a Sunday workshop at the Young Makers tent.

Then we wandered some of the other areas (robotics, sustainabiity, etc.) and made a pseudoscorpion puppet, learned about seed bombs and guerrilla gardening, and checked out all the cool robots. Mikro took a robot building workshop and built a spinbot. He was extremely proud of himself.

At 4:30, it was time for Professor John Long's lecture on Darwin's Devices, i.e., using robotics to further our understanding of evolutionary biology. It was fascinating, and Mikro ate it up, as it combines two of his passions. (I posted about his enthusiastic participation here...

We had a terrific time (even me, gimping along with a cane through the crowds. Well, that part wasn't fun, but all the cool tech and crafty stuff sure was!)

Looking Forward to Maker Faire

Mikro is fascinated with robots, and is really looking forward to attending Maker Faire at the New York Hall of Science this coming weekend.

We've been looking at videos of previous Maker Faire events, and of robots generally, on YouTube.

Here's one from Maker Faire 2008:

This video of a humanoid Korean robot at the CNN futureSummit certainly whetted his appetite:
