City of Water Day, Part 1: Eco Cruise

July 14th was City of Water Day, an awesome festival full of free activities for people of all ages, aimed at reconnecting New Yorkers with the waterways that surround us. The event features free boat rides and dockside boat tours, kayak lessons, crafts and activities for kids, music, food and fun. We were lucky enough to get tickets for two boat rides.

Our day started off on the Circle Line with an eco tour to Hoffman and Swindborne Islands with NYC Audubon. There are rookeries there full of cormorants, egrets and herons. And the view of the skyline, local landmarks, and other participating ships could not be beat! We also were happy to share the ride with a family that we met last year at City of Water Day. If you haven't come out for it before (and even if you have!), we highly recommend that you give City of Water Day a try next summer.
