Field Trip to Urban Glass

Our homeschool group toured a glass studio and learned about different types of glassmaking. We watched a demonstration of flameworking (how beads are made from glass rods using a torch) and glass-blowing. First, the artists made a small galss rose. Then they created a smiley faced pitcher/vase.

It was exciting, and confirms for me that I must try glass-blowing someday before I die. Urban Glass offers courses, and I hope to take one in the near future. Seems like a worthy use of our tax refund to me! If I'm lucky, I'll be taking a class this fall.
