Diwali Festival at Jackson Heights Library

Our current history topic is ancient India, so we were delighted to attend a Diwali celebration at the Jackson Heights Library, in Kevin's old childhood neighborhood.

There was wonderful music, singing, and dancing and beautiful mendhi (henna decorations). We had a great time.

Chele, I found a small Geography class that meets near Chestnut Ridge, NY. I'm not sure how far that is for you. Each week she brings in a native from another country. They talk to the kids about what it is like in their country and they bring pictures and videos. It's pretty interesting. Next Monday a friend of mine is doing Belarus. It''s only $5.00 per person.
