Our Week Recapped

Monday was our snowy first day of spring, which made it easy to stay in and get some work done. Mikro finished a pile of library books and built some electronics kit projects.

Tuesday was Native American Architecture Class. The kids worked on the framework for their longhouse model, and also made baskets, drying racks, etc. for the village... Here's how the longhouse was looking at the end of the day. It was really cool to watch them working together so well.

Afterwards, Kevin met us at Washington Square Park and I bought him pizza dinner for his birthday, and picked up his favorite chocolate mousse for an alternative to birthday cake. We walked across Greenwich Village to the train, and the boys stopped to appreciate the Alamo sculpture... Mikro thinks it looks like the Allspark from Transformers...

Wednesday was library day (even though we got snow/rain/snow all day), and Thursday started off with 2 inches of snow, but wound up bright and sunny and beautiful enough for bird watching and basketball in the afternoon. Ooga Booga, our furry feeder bandit, was particularly brazen about conducting his raids right under my nose...

Mikro also tried on his elf suit, which finally arrived after being lost in international mail limbo for over a month. And he successfully lobbied for a humongous dragonfly balloon as an early birthday thing. What was interesting was that this balloon absolutely freaked out Amicus, our bearded dragon, who apparently interpreted it as a predator, maybe a hawk... She has been scanning the "sky" ever since for the big mylar birdie...

We failed to do our Illustration Friday gig today, since Mikro has managed to mislay his sketchbook. And we had our sad discovery of the tufted titmouse. But we did get a good amount of academic stuff done afterwards, and really enjoyed listening to the unabridged audio book version of Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin.
